A hospice referral doesn’t have to come from a doctor or social worker. A family member, a friend or neighbor can make the first call to CompassionCare Hospice.
Before a patient is admitted, his or her physician must certify that the patient is medically appropriate for hospice. (CompassionCare will contact the physician for verification.)
A patient can remain in hospice as long as he or she meets the criteria established by Medicare/Medicaid or a private insurer. By law, the hospice organization must continue to provide care. The decision to enter or leave hospice always belongs to the patient.
