Happy World Heart Day !!

World heart day supports a world-wide campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention. Today is the day to start making smart, healthy changes. Quit smoking, get exercising and start eating healthy! Heart disease along with stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, killing 17.1 million people every year (more than cancer or HIV). World heart day encourages individuals to make better choices in their every day lives and there’s no better time to start then the present.

Looking after your heart starts with understanding risks involved. Know your blood glucose levels, high blood sugar can mean diabetes and if untreated puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke. It’s also important to take your blood pressure, high blood pressure is the number one risk for cause of stroke. Be sure that you make your regularly scheduled doctors visits and ask them to check your weight, cholesterol levels, and even body mass index-all of these the right steps in watching out for your heart health!

This year, World Heart Day’s theme is about creating heart-healthy environments. The places in which we live, work and play should not increase our risk of these diseases. More frequently than not, we cannot make heart-healthy choices due to environmental factors, such as the availability of healthy food or smoke-free zones.
