Cancer Control Month

Cancer Awareness

April is cancer control month.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. Cancer control month highlights prevention, detection, ad treatment of cancer. Cancer is not one disease. There are many types of cancers. Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Being overweight or obese, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition are related to 1/3 of cancers cases detected. Tobacco and alcohol use also increase your risk. These factors are very controllable. Cancer knows no boundaries. Everyone is at risk of developing cancer. Though, age plays a big risk factor in developing cancer. More than 75 percent of the cases detected are in people over the age of 55. Over a lifetime, about 1 in 2 men in the United States will develop cancer, and about 1 in 3 women in the United States will develop cancer. Prevention and detection is your best chance against this disease. Cancer screenings can help find cancer early. Usually, the earlier the detection the better the prognosis. Cancer control month is also a time to remember those we have lost to cancer. CompassionCare Hospice is here to give those affected by this disease a little hope and support. We are not giving up.
